2. Bhangarh Forts, Rajasthan

4. Delhi Cantt, New Delhi

India's capital city of New Delhi has its own share of ghosts and ghost stories! Delhi is well connected with other parts of the country via road-links, rail networks and airways. Therefore travellers do not face many hassles in an effort to meet Delhi's most famous ghost or more appropriately 'ghostess'! The area around Delhi Cantt is said to be haunted by a vengeful spirit of a lady, clad in a white dress, who asks motorists for lift and then suddenly disappears!

5. The Savoy, Mussoorie

This holiday hotel dates back to 1902. It is said that the corridors of this hotel are haunted by the ghost of Lady Garnet Orme, who was found dead in mysterious circumstances.

6. Kuldhara Village, Rajasthan

Kuldhara, also known as the 'Ghost Village of Rajasthan' is considered to be one of the most haunted places in India. This deserted village does make you feel sad and wonders what the poor people of the village might have gone through that made them decide to flee their homes overnight along with people of 84 other villages. It is said that Salum Singh, the diwan of the region, levied huge taxes because of which it became extremely difficult for Paliwals to survive in the village. Also, he had his eyes on one of the girls of the community and desired to marry her, but was disapproved by the community. He then threatened the villagers that if he doesn't get what he desires then they will have to face dire consequences. Due to this, Paliwals along with the people of 84 other villages left Kuldhara to preserve their dignity and honour. These disheartened people cursed that no one will ever be able to live here, and till date, these villages remain deserted.

7. The Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune

The Shaniwarwada Fort is a landmark site in Pune, known for its historical significance and association with the renowned Bajirao Peshwa. Being a popular destination, tourists often flock to behold the fort that was once the pride of the Maratha Empire. But beware, it is believed to be haunted; it is suggested that you avoid visiting it after sunset. According to the general belief held by the locals in Pune, the Wada is also populated with the wandering spirits of people who lost their lives in the fire that engulfed the fort long back. Apparently, for all these reasons, people are discouraged from entering the fort after 6:30 PM. Even now, more so on the full moon nights, the heart-wrenching cries of Narayan Rao, the young prince, can be heard by those who stay close-by. In all likelihood, visiting the Wada on no moon nights is also a no-no.

8. Malcha Mahal, Delhi

Malcha Mahal has long been associated with the strange and disturbed, thanks to a range of reasons. The place is located within thick forestry, has a legacy of anguish and death, and there are various accounts of people going in for a thrill, but coming out scared and shaken, or never even coming out at all. These macabre rumours probably arose due to the life and death of the Begum who lived there. She was known to be an eccentric woman with a strange and unusual demeanour, and her committing suicide only added to the mystery. The grave of the Begum who lived here was even dug up and robbed once, so her children consequently cremated the body and placed the ashes in a crystal vial. This children of the Begum herself lived on in a frugal and reclusive existence, with no modern amenities and 9 massive dogs for company. All this and more has given rise to Malcha Mahal adopting a sinister and haunting image, but the true story of this place is one of despair.
