1. Mamma Mia
Want the perfect blend of love, laughter and tears? There's nothing better for you than Mamma Mia. The movie has two parts, an original and a prequel, made 10 years apart from one another. The movies in themselves give you the true experience of watching a musical. Unlike most movies where the songs are chosen/recorded according to the storyline of the movie, both the parts of Mamma Mia are some of the very rare movies where the storyline has been spun around the music. The movies pay homage to the legendary band ABBA and have been written to be so perfectly in sync with the lyrics of the songs. Mamma Mia is truly a pleasure to watch.
Mamma Mia- The Movie (2008)
Cast: Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters, Colin Firth
The storyline of the movie primarily revolves around Donna (Meryl Streep) and her young daughter Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) who live on a gorgeous Greek island. The plot of the movie starts with Sophie’s marriage, but who should walk her down the aisle? On finding her mother’s old diary, Sophie decides to invite her three potential dads to the wedding and that's just the beginning.
Mamma Mia - Here We Go Again (2018)
[Prequel] Cast: Meryl Streep, Amanda Seyfried, Lily James, Cher, Pierce Brosnan, Julie Walters, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski
After the passing away of her mother, Sophie decides to open a hotel on the island. The audience is able to see Sophie’s journey at present-day along with several flashbacks of Donna’s truly adventurous and thrilling younger self (Lily James). As we watch, we find out that Sophie has never felt closer to her mother. Lily James is able to portray the role of a younger version of Meryl Streep so beautifully across the entire narrative that it just makes the entire experience a whole lot more gripping.
Mamma Mia is the true definition of a feel-good movie.
2. The Devil Wears Prada (2006)-
Cast: Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Simon Baker, Adrian Grenier
Andrea (Anne Hathaway), a young graduate aspiring to be a journalist, comes to New York and lands a job as an assistant to one of the city's biggest magazine’s demanding editor-in-chief, the ruthless and cynical Miranda Priestly. The movie is a complete blend of comedy, sarcasm and lots and lots of fashion. Andy’s journey as she deals with “the devil” Miranda Priestly is honestly so hilarious at times and through the course of the movie you will find yourself thinking “Oh god, I pity that poor girl” really often. The cherry on the cake is, of course, the absolutely gorgeous outfits worn by the entire cast in the movie.
3. The Intern (2015)-
Cast: Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Rene Russo, Anders Holm, JoJo Kushner, Andrew Rannells, Adam Devine, Zack Pearlman.
Ben Whittaker (Robert De Niro), a 70-year-old widower, realises that he is not cut out for retirement. He then applies to become a senior intern for Jules (Anne Hathaway), a sceptical boss at an online fashion site. Personally, for us, the two things that stood out most in the movie were, of course, the extremely loving relationship and friendship between Ben and Jules and secondly, the portrayal of Jules’ journey as a self-made successful businesswoman. We honestly couldn't think of a better combination than Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway to portray these roles.
4. Bride Wars (2009)-
Cast: Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway, Chris Pratt, Steve Howey, Bryan Greenberg
Two childhood best friends (Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway), have made many many plans together for their respective weddings ever since they were little, part of the dream was a June wedding at the Plaza. But, watch them turn into sworn enemies in a race to get married before the other and have the bigger, better wedding all because of their wedding dates getting mixed up. The name honestly, couldn't have been more accurate.
5. Oceans 8 (2018)-
Cast: Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Anne Hathaway, Mindy Kaling, Sarah Paulson, Awkwafina, Rihanna, Helena Bonham Carter
To begin with, Oceans 8 is the very definition of an all-star cast. The movie Oceans 8 is part of the series which previously had Oceans 11, 12 and 13. (Though it is not important to see any of those parts before seeing Oceans 8). After her brother Danny Ocean’s death, Debbie Ocean is released from jail after serving a prison sentence. Of Course what better way to make a comeback than to jump back into the game of cons and form the ultimate, 7 women crew to steal a diamond necklace, worth 150 million dollars, from the Met Gala. The writing, casting, acting and directing of the movie is absolutely phenomenal. It is a mixture of crime and wittiness and is the perfect edge of the seat movie.
